In Memoriam

Brothers, it is with deep regret and sadness that we share the news of the loss of our Brother, Don Wilson '68, who passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday evening, April 29, 2024. He is survived by his Wife Vera, his Daughter Stacey and his Son Geoffrey.

Don was initiated into Sigma Chi at the Epsilon Kappa Chapter at Memphis State University. Upon his graduation from college, Don was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Vietnam War, then served another three years in the TN Air National Guard.  Don earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters for his service to our country.

Following his distinguished his military service, Don then worked as a pilot for FedEx. He served as Assistant Chief Pilot and Chairman of the Airline Pilots Association.  Once he retired from FedEx in 2006, Don worked with Legacy Wealth Management to help establish a FedEx retired pilot program concerning the management of financial assets.

Don was also an entrepreneur, serving as a Partner in Beale Street Blues Company that owns venues such as BB King’s Blues Clubs, Lafayette’s Music Rooms and Itta Bena.

Don had been serving as the Vice President of the Memphis Sigma Chi Housing Group, Inc. for the last several years, and had served previously as President. It was through Don’s efforts and leadership that the Housing Group has been awarded the  Outstanding House Corporation Award from Sigma Chi every year since 2018.

Don loved life, craved adventure, and was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. Per his wishes, a memorial service and White Rose Ceremony will be held in Memphis at date later to be announced.
