In Memoriam

Jimmie Lee Price, 76, of St. Petersburg, FL and longtime resident of Memphis, TN, passed away on April 20, 2023, surrounded by his family.


Jimmie was born on December 6, 1946, to Doris Haynes Price and James Lee Haynes in Memphis, TN. After graduating from White Station High School, Jimmie began to study at Memphis State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration.


Jimmie enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and served a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967-1968. Upon his return from Vietnam, he continued to serve in the army until 1970. In 1972 Jimmie joined the City of Memphis Fire Department where he served for 30 years. In 2002, he retired from the Fire Department as Chief of Emergency Services. In 1983, Jimmie joined the Tennessee Air National Guard and served for 23 years. He retired from the Air Force in 2006 as Chief Master Sergeant. The Air Force honored Jimmie with the Airman’s Medal for a special act of heroism. Jimmie always remembered his time serving his city and country fondly. He had a special bond with those he worked with and was proud of the work they did each day.


On April 11, 1981, Jimmie married the love of his life, Leslie Gaye Bennett in Memphis, TN. They had two children, Les Raymond Stallings, and Laura Rose Price. Jimmie was immensely proud of his family and the life he and Gaye built together.


Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, James Haynes, his mother, Doris Price, his sister, Pat Gardner, and his son, Les Stallings. He is survived by his wife, Gaye Price, his daughter, Laura (John) Flint, his four grandsons, Parker Stallings, Pierce Stallings, Bennett Flint, and Charlie Flint, his brother, Charles Price, and several dear close cousins, nephews, and nieces.


The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to The Fire Museum of Memphis, The United States Department of Veterans Affairs, or a charity of choice.
